100 years ago the foundation of The Red Cross Hospital was built at that place (The Russian Monument). During the following 50 years the hospital gained its authority in the Bulgarian Healthcare system and proved to be a hospital for the common bulgarian citizen and for emergency medicine. This lead to the transformation of the Red Cross Hospital into a Emergency Hospital 50 years ago, and later into an Institute for Emergency Medicine "N.I.Pirogov" and now into MHATEM "N.I.Pirogov". The changes of the name reflect the growth of this Institution and its firmness and perspective for the future.
